Bingo Hall is Set to Close in Wellingborough

Not all is well in the United Kingdom clear across the board and sometimes even in a booming industry like the bingo market, things just do not go as planned. With the rise of online bingo and its convenience, not to mention the massive land based casinos and bingo halls in the major metro areas of the UK, some smaller venues are not seeing the business that they used to. Locals say that this is the case for The Lyric Club in the town of Wellingborough. With fewer players coming in on a regular basis, a ban on indoor smoking and the effects of the global recession, business – say the club’s owners – is simply not what it used to be. This was the last bingo hall in the town and its closure means that a dozen people are now looking for work who were former employees of the hall. The last 3 years had been hard for The Lyric Club and things had been looking grim, so the management at least felt that they were not surprising their employees, the press revealed.

With the recession closing in and the high over head that some land based bingo halls are facing these days, it appears that online bingo may have to be the choice for most not only in Wellingborough, but other parts of the UK where access to local bingo halls is limited. The owners of the hall also pointed out that banks and the Government have not been terribly helpful to them in terms of helping their business stay afloat through the hard times with double taxation and high rates for business loans creating too many expenses for the company to profit.
